Ibadan's Bodija District Shaken by Blast



The Police Command in Oyo State has confirmed a Tuesday night explosion on Dejo Oyelese Street, Bodija, Ibadan. The casualty count is unclear, but a large police presence has been dispatched to maintain order.

 

Local residents first reported the explosion, posting online videos showing a dust cloud, and nearby buildings and vehicles on fire. A student from the University of Ibadan shared their experience of hearing a loud blast and seeing smoke, voicing concerns for safety.

 

Motunrayo Adegboro, living in Barika, about 15 minutes from the explosion site, also verified the event.

 

DSP Adewale Osifeso, representing the state police, issued a brief statement: "There was an explosion at Dejo Oyelese Street, Bodija, Ibadan at 7:44 pm on Tuesday, 17/01/2024. The cause and casualty figures are still unknown. The state police have sent forces to ensure peace. More updates to come."
