Kanu's Brother Raises Concerns About IPOB Leader's Health

The family of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has issued a warning regarding his health condition while in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).

They have stated that Kanu is in critical condition and urgently requires the attention of a cardiologist.

They have also appealed to President Bola Tinubu to ensure that Kanu receives proper medical care and is not allowed to perish while in DSS custody.

Kanu has been detained since 2021 following his extradition from Kenya. Despite his deteriorating health, his request for bail on medical grounds was denied by Justice Binta Nyako on Tuesday.

In a statement released on Saturday, Kanu's younger brother, Emmanuel, revealed that he had been informed about Kanu's critical illness. He emphasized the urgent need for medical intervention to prevent a serious health crisis.

The statement highlighted, "We received information this morning indicating that his health is in critical condition.

He has not been allowed access to his personal doctors, and it is imperative that he sees a cardiologist. It is crucial that he is not left to perish in DSS custody."

The family also criticized the political leaders in the South-East for failing to advocate for Kanu's release from custody.

They accused certain individuals of benefiting from Kanu's continued detention, which they believe has led to the lack of engagement by political leaders in securing his freedom.

They questioned why no Igbo political leaders had approached Tinubu to discuss Kanu's release nearly a year after he assumed office.

They expressed disappointment that Kanu, who advocated for Igbo freedom, has been abandoned to suffer in DSS custody while political leaders have seemingly ignored his plight.
