Presidential Office Refutes Atiku's Criticisms of President Tinubu's Absence Amidst National Crises

In response to Atiku Abubakar's recent tweet criticizing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his absence during a period of heightened insecurity, the Presidential Office has issued a strong rebuttal. Atiku had voiced concerns over the President's international travel amidst ongoing national security threats, suggesting that if Tinubu found the responsibilities too burdensome, he should consider stepping down.

Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, condemned Atiku's statement as thoughtless. He reassured the public that President Tinubu remains fully engaged with the country's domestic affairs, including the critical areas of security and economy.

Onanuga's statement clarified that President Tinubu's recent trip to France was not only pre-announced but also short-term, and he has stayed well-informed about the national situation. Furthermore, the President's involvement was evident in the recent inauguration of the Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage.

He emphasized the President's proactive measures, including regular updates from officials and security chiefs and directives to intensify efforts against criminal activities. Specific attention was drawn to the President's instructions following recent tragic events in Ekiti State, involving the murder of local monarchs and the kidnapping of students.

Onanuga highlighted significant achievements in the security sector, mentioning the capture of over 139 kidnappers and the rescue of numerous abductees in recent operations. Furthermore, President Tinubu's commitment to addressing security challenges was underlined by his approval of a substantial N50 billion fund for the North East, as well as additional resources to combat kidnappings in the Federal Capital Territory.

Concluding, Onanuga suggested that Atiku's comments might be influenced by his inability to move past his electoral defeat. He accused Atiku of engaging in superficial politics rather than genuinely contributing to the nation's security discourse. Reiterating the President's dedication, Onanuga affirmed that President Tinubu, supported by the security forces, is determined to ensure peace and security throughout Nigeria.
