Rep Spokesperson, Hon. Akin Rotimi Weeps While Discussing Insecurity in Ekiti at a Plenary

During a plenary session, Hon. Akin Rotimi, the spokesperson for the House of Representatives, was visibly moved to tears on January 30th while addressing the escalating security issues in Ekiti State.

Representing Ekiti's Ikole/Oye federal constituency, Rotimi became emotional as he brought forward a motion related to the recent murder of two local monarchs by unidentified assailants.

This tragic event occurred on Monday, January 30th, when two out of three monarchs, who were returning from a meeting in Irele-Ekiti, were ambushed and fatally shot. The deceased were identified as David Ogunsakin, the Elesun of Esun-Ekiti, and Olatunde Olusola, the Onimojo of Omojola-Ekiti.

Rotimi highlighted a surge in criminal activities in the northern part of Ekiti, causing loss of life and property damage. He described Onimojo as an intellectual, a gifted historian, and an outspoken truth-teller. As for Ogunsakin, Rotimi remembered him as a peace-seeking leader actively involved in the development of the Esun-Ayedun communities.

He pointed out the unique security vulnerabilities of his constituency, exacerbated by forested areas, challenging topography, and notably deteriorated federal roads in Ekiti.

Rotimi also noted that these monarchs' deaths were part of a larger pattern of violence, including the recent murder of a commercial driver between Ayedun and Ayebode by armed bandits, and the abduction of students from a school bus in Emure Ekiti, whose whereabouts remain unknown.

Following the presentation of the motion, the House requested that Chief of Army Staff, Taoreed Lagbaja, deploy military forces to the Oke-Ako area to strengthen security and prevent further incidents.
