Lagos Police Counsel School Proprietors on Safety

The Lagos State Police Command is urging school administrators in the region to implement safety measures to protect their students. During a stakeholder dialogue at the command headquarters in Surulere, Area Commander ACP Oladunni Ayoola emphasized the importance of leveraging technology for improved security in schools.

Ayoola advised against organizing events or taking students outside the school premises without police escorts, stressing the need for collaboration between schools and law enforcement agencies to ensure safety.

He highlighted the lack of proper security measures and technological integration in many schools, including the absence of tracking systems for school buses and failure to involve the police in event organization.

The directive from the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, conveyed through the state Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, underscores the significance of enhancing school security. Ayoola mentioned a previous initiative launched by the IGP on August 8, 2023, aimed at addressing school security concerns.

The meeting served as a platform for Area Commanders to engage with school managers, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between schools and security agencies to establish safe learning environments. Ayoola assured school owners of police support, with local police officers providing their contact details for prompt reporting of any security issues.
