The Kano State Government has denied any role in the ongoing trial of Murja Kunya, a TikToker accused of sharing not appropriate video content in violation of state laws. Kunya is an avid supporter of the current administration.
However, the authorities, in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Baba Dantiye, said that the claims on social media are false and malicious.
"The state government is fully conscious of the constitutional provisions for the separation of powers and the division of responsibilities between the judiciary, legislature, and executive as the three branches of government, and will never act or engage in any act that jeopardizes or undermines this noble provision."
"The government is also quite aware that the issue is purely legal and within the authority of the judiciary, and will not interfere in any way to influence its fair and just outcome," he said.

The court gave Kano seven days to respond to LG's suit. The AG has ruled that the decree to freeze Kano accounts for N30bn compensation is illegal.
Last week, the judge remanded the popular TikToker in a Kano correctional center after she was arrested by Hisba and charged with'recruiting' young girls into prostitution.
"Let it be remembered that, to the best of the government's knowledge, Murja Kunya appeared before an Upper Shari'ah Court at Kwanar Hudu in the Nassarawa Local Government area on charges of sharing vulgar videos on a social media platform, after which the court ordered her return in a prison and adjourned the case to Tuesday, February 20, 2023, after hearing her bail application.
"However, it came to the government's attention that this was a new allegation against her, necessitating her being sent out for investigation by security forces. Her case is still open and will be heard by the court until it is resolved.
"The public at large is hereby urged to disregard the mischievous allegation against the state government as nothing but an erroneous attempt to tarnish its good image and reputation while assuring the good people of the state that it continues to respect and uphold the sanctity of the provisions of the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria," the statement went on to say.
