In anticipation of the highly awaited semi-final match between Nigeria's Super Eagles and South Africa in the African Cup of Nations, the Lagos State Government has established a substantial viewing center at Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan. This initiative is one of 25 viewing centers spread throughout the state, aimed at providing fans the opportunity to partake in the excitement of Africa's premier football event, which kicked off on January 13 in Côte d'Ivoire.
This upcoming match against South Africa's Bafana Bafana, set to take place at the Stade de la Paix in Bouake, marks the teams' fourth encounter in the tournament's history, with Nigeria having emerged victorious in all previous matches. The game is scheduled to begin at 6 pm.
Gbenga Omotoso, the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, emphasized the significance of enabling fans to watch the game, noting Lagos' status as the hub of the Super Eagles' most fervent supporters. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has expressed his intention to make the match accessible to all fans, expressing confidence in the national team's abilities and technical expertise to secure a win.
Besides the main viewing center in Onikan, additional locations have been arranged across Lagos, including the Agege Stadium, Abesan Sports Centre, and numerous local government areas, among others. These centers are strategically located in various parts of the city, from Agege to Festac, and from Ikorodu to Oshodi, ensuring that residents from all corners of Lagos have a place nearby to join in the communal viewing experience.
