The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited reassured on Thursday that there are no plans to raise the price of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol). Through a communication from Olufemi Soneye, the Chief Corporate Communications Officer, the company addressed the public's concerns, advising against the unnecessary stockpiling of fuel.
In their statement, NNPCL emphasized, “NNPC Ltd. wants to calm the public by debunking the baseless speculations about a price hike for PMS. We encourage drivers throughout the country to avoid panic purchasing due to the sufficient supply of PMS available nationwide.”
Concerns Over Potential Petrol Scarcity Dismissed by NNPCL
Despite oil marketers voicing apprehensions over possible fuel shortages if NNPCL does not distribute petrol effectively to depot owners and retailers, the company has reassured that there is an adequate supply. The emergence of long queues at petrol stations in Lagos State since Monday, leading to traffic congestions in areas like Ikeja, had sparked worries among residents about a potential fuel shortage.
However, Olufemi Soneye, in a recent discussion, clarified that the NNPCL is not facing any supply challenges and that fuel is accessible. He mentioned that the distribution hiccup noticed in some regions, particularly Lagos, has been addressed.
Soneye affirmed, “We wish to assure everyone that there are no issues with our fuel supply and it continues to be widely available. The temporary distribution difficulty observed in certain locales was specifically in Lagos and has been promptly rectified.”
