Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, a notable All Progressives Congress leader and former House of Representatives member for Delta State's Ika Federal Constituency, has died. His death occurred on a Wednesday evening as he was viewing the AFCON semi-final match between Nigeria and South Africa. Witnesses reported that Ojougboh, also a medical practitioner, collapsed and died following a heart attack triggered by a penalty scored against Nigeria by South Africa.
At the time this news was reported, Ojougboh's family had not released an official statement regarding his passing. Nonetheless, Augustine Ekamagule, the Publicity Secretary for the Agbor Community Union, confirmed the unfortunate event during a phone interview, stating that Ojougboh died in Abuja during the match. A distressing call around 3 a.m. Thursday from a family member to Chief Laurence Onyeche, President General of the Agbor Community Union, revealed the circumstances of Ojougboh's sudden death, emphasizing the immediate and unsuccessful efforts to revive him.
Chief Onyeche lamented the loss, highlighting Ojougboh's pivotal role in Agbor and Nigerian politics as a prominent and fearless leader. The Agbor Community Union, along with Ojougboh's friends and political colleagues, have since been expressing their condolences and sharing their grief across social media platforms, marking the passing of a significant political figure.
