A 37-year-old woman named Bilikisu Kazeem tragically lost her life due to a gunshot wound incurred during a confrontation between police and kidnappers on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
The incident was confirmed by SP Omolola Odutola, the
spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command. During the police operation
against the kidnappers, nine of the ten abducted individuals were successfully
rescued.
The kidnapping incident occurred on Friday when the
abductors targeted travelers on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway. Among those
kidnapped was Philip Aivoji, the Lagos State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP).
The police undertook a rescue mission to save the victims.
SP Odutola reported that during the escape effort, a White Mazda Bus with the
registration LSR 288 XE was slightly damaged. Four individuals, Eunice Afolake
Osalusi, Erinfolami Samuel, Obafemi Da Altantra, and Adeyinka Mathew, suffered
non-lethal bullet wounds and are currently recovering in a stable condition in
the hospital.
Regrettably, Bilikisu Kazeem passed away before she could
receive medical attention. Her family, who were transporting her to the
hospital, declined a police-requested autopsy and took her remains.
Police recovered several items from the scene, including an
AK47 magazine with 28 live rounds, believed to be owned by the criminals, along
with mobile phones, and a car key, which were returned to their rightful
owners.
The abduction of the PDP chairman took place while he was
returning from a stakeholders' meeting in Oyo State, hosted by Governors Seyi
Makinde and Ademola Adeleke.
