Vice President Kashim Shettima is set to head an influential delegation in support of the Super Eagles for their match against the Elephants of Cote d'Ivoire in the championship match.
It has been reported by Naija News that Shettima will be present for the final match scheduled to take place at the Alassanne Quattara Stadium in Ebimpe, Abidjan, this Sunday.
SocreNigeria has disclosed that the Vice President will be joined by several high-ranking government officials for the trip to Ivory Coast.
The eagerly awaited final between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Elephants of Ivory Coast is scheduled for 9 p.m. on Sunday, February 11, following their previous encounter in the group stages.
Vice President Shettima arrived in Cote d'Ivoire just before the team's semi-final win over South Africa's Bafana Bafana.
He was present at the Stade de la Paix in Bouake to witness the match and later joined the celebration with the team and their officials in the locker room.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on the Super Eagles to clinch the 2023 AFCON title, invoking the motivational phrase 'Awa Lokan'.
'Awa Lokan', translating to "it's our time" in Yoruba, gained prominence during President Tinubu's 2023 presidential campaign. The President is encouraging the team to seize the opportunity to win the AFCON, a feat last achieved 13 years ago.
The team's journey to the final was marked by a second-place finish in Group A, with a draw and two victories, including a significant 1-0 victory against the host nation, Ivory Coast. Their path to the final included victories over Cameroon, Angola, and South Africa, marking their first return to the final since their last win in 2013 under Stephen Keshi.
