The Senate session was postponed due to a blackout that occurred in the National Assembly complex, causing delays as senators awaited the restoration of electricity before commencing their meeting.
A video circulated on social media showing the Senate chamber in partial darkness, prompting reactions from online users.
According to reports from Channels TV, the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, eventually began the session after power was reinstated a few minutes later. Akpabio apologized for the blackout and the discomfort caused by the heat in the chamber, revealing that around nine offices were still without power as efforts were underway to address the issue.
Responding to the video on a social media platform, a user with the handle #sweetheartadecx commented, "Breakfast belongs to everyone. They should also experience the challenges Nigerians are facing."
Another user, #KinginglyGeorge, wrote, "#aedcelectricity if they haven’t paid their bills, do not restore anything… they should go home."

Distribution Company had threatened to disconnect electricity in the
Presidential Villa and 86 Federal Government ministries, departments, and
agencies due to outstanding debts totaling N47.195 billion as of December 2023.
